The 2024 Paris Olympics will go down in history as one of the most eventful Olympics ever. The distinct architecture of Paris, France and the famous Eiffel Tower in the background made for one of the best backdrops in history; many memories were made during the Paris Olympics.
Swimming in La Seine seemed like a great idea because it’s famously associated with Paris, but it came with some downsides. The biggest thing that was on everyone’s mind was the bacteria levels that kept going above safe levels, forcing trainings to be canceled. Athletes felt uncertain about their ability to get used to the rivers currents which makes it endlessly harder to make focus and make strategies. There are a lot of questions that could be asked about how safe La Seine really was. Did they take proper measurements to make it safe? Did athletes still have motivation too swim or were they more interested in putting their health first?
Moving on to Basketball, the USA is easily the most successful in the Olympics when it comes to this. Since 1992, NBA players have been allowed to compete in the Olympics. Given that the NBA is one of the most competitive professional leagues in the world and is comprised of mainly American teams, it’s no surprise why the US is the most decorated in this Olympic sport. The US has won the past 4 gold medals and won 7 out of 8 since 1992. LeBron James has played in 4 of those Olympics, making his Olympic debut in 2004 and winning gold in 2008, 2012, and 2024. The performance that the USA basketball team put on this year, led by LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry was undefeated and won the gold medal, cementing themselves as one of the greatest Olympic teams.
How did the 2024 Paris Olympics compare to other great Olympics like Tokyo, Beijing, Rio, London? The Paris Olympics were great for numerous reasons, but mainly because of how beautiful Paris is. Paris is constantly in the discussion of the most beautiful city with a lot of people dreaming of going to Paris. It is nicknamed the city of love and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole world. Every Olympics had some special moments, so how does Paris rank among the rest?
“I don’t know that I can actually rank them, but I can tell you I thought the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop was really cool to see at night when it was all lit up. I enjoyed seeing the sporting events that I don’t always get to see like badminton and ping pong. I also enjoyed hearing Snoop Dogg commentate and some events. He was pretty funny. I was disappointed that softball was not in Paris. I am a big fan of softball. I am most excited to see the Olympics come to the United States in 2028. It would be a dream to go see a couple events,” Greenway’s Coach Mason said.
The opening of the 2024 Paris Olympics was filled with criticism and hate because many believed it was a disrespectful interpretation of the Last Supper painted by Leonardo Di Vinci. On the other hand there are a lot of people who think that the opening ceremony is a depiction of The Feast Of Dionysus, which was a series of festivals held in ancient Athens to honor the Greek god Dionysus, the god of wine. Though the opening ceremony received a lot of criticism, the closing ceremony was more palatable, but it was definitely an emotional roller-coaster. Tom Cruise had an entrance, and he had a moment with Simone Biles. Famous singer Billie Eilish had a performance in Los Angles, the future host of the 2028 games. There was more stunts, but the main attraction was the spiky golden voyager which closed out the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The cultural impact of the Olympics often is overlooked, so covering it in a story give great insight to just how big of an event it is

I like that you wrote about something outside of greenway, and even out of our country. It might not be something that most greenway students think about since it is not directly related to us so its nice to be reminded of those outside subjects.
