Take a Chance and learn to Dance

Ms. Berg, Greenway’s dance teacher, has been dancing for 30 consecutive years! She has had a passion for dance most of her life, but starting junior year, here at Greenway, she knew she wanted to be a dance teacher.

Ms. Berg was accepted into ASU school of dance where she earned her bachelor’s degree in dance education, then completed her master’s degree in secondary/special education.

“I love working with high school students more than anything because I feel like I am giving my students an opportunity that they would otherwise have to pay for at a dance studio, and also preparing them for adulthood is so rewarding,” Mrs. Berg said. This class is a great opportunity for kids to learn new skills and make great connections with fellow peers at the cost of nothing. Ms. Berg would like to shout out some dancers, Maddie, Sarah, Lily, Bri, Marlene, Lissy, and Katie! These girls are Mrs. Bergs 4^th hour Adaptive Dance Peer Tutors. They are all in her top levels here at Greenway, Performance Company and Advanced Dance, and have been in her program for at least two years!

“To be an adaptive peer tutor, it truly takes so much compassion, patience, leadership skills, and lots of love,” Ms. Berg said. She says she is excited to implement more technique into classes this year, she believes that it will take their choreography to the next level making them more unique and complex. Ms. Berg loves her students, she says she has seen so many beautiful moments, many of her students will cherish for years to come.

“I enjoy that Ms. Berg’s class allows students to be free and express themselves through a form of art. It is amazing to watch my schoolmates grow as dancers,” Senior Anthony Phan said. Students say she is very sweet and will help you out as best as possible: she is also a great listener! “I have learned so much from Ms. Berg. I started off my dancing career during my freshman year. She has taught me to improve so much as a dancer and she is constantly pushing me to thrive for the best,” Anthony said. Ms. Berg has made an impact on some of these kids lives and passion for dance.

“I also love the way she builds relationships with her students and many are able to confide in her with problems outside of dance because they trust her and know that she is always here for us,” Junior Valeria Garnica Hernandez said. Ms. Berg is not only a dance teacher to these students, but also someone they can turn to with their personal lives because they know she is there for them.

“My favorite thing about Ms. Berg is how comfortable she makes me around her,” Senior Katya Mowli said.

Students adore Ms. Berg. She has great personality traits for being a teacher, making her students comfortable in her class allowing them to express themselves without feeling judged.

“I love the way that she teaches class in both a professional and a slightly toned down way so that we get to have a good balance of school dance and studio,” Senior Vivian Pharris-Kloft said.

It is clear that students learn so much from her class and improve so much.
