Security cameras in school have been getting really popular in the United States for many different reasons, one of the most prominent being safety of students, staff, and anyone on campus. There have been many violent incidents in public schools around the world and staff just want to make sure everyone is safe, hoping that it won’t happen at their school. However, cameras have become a controversial topic among the student body.
Some may think security cameras in school are a violation of privacy, but others may think they are just a way to know you are safe at all times at school.
“Personally, I don’t see it as an invasion of privacy since they are only placed to monitor public walkway or hallway areas, not in any classrooms or other rooms on campus. I’ve never viewed hallways or walkways as private places, but I can see how some would find cameras being placed anywhere as an invasion of privacy. That being said, I think it is a necessary invasion due to the proliferation of school violence incidents. It seems like almost every day we have a new story somewhere of violence being carried out on a school campus somewhere in the US,” Hospitality teacher Mr.Dudo said.
“Oh we are for sure adding more cameras on school grounds, such as in the hallways, fields, parking lots and other public places in need of cameras,” Principal Barnes said.
Some parents have started raising concerns and would like security cameras removed from school grounds. They find cameras in front of bathrooms strange and unusual. On the other hand, some parents like to see the amount of security and safety schools have since it ensures that — in any event — there is footage of anything going wrong.
There have been many violent outbreaks in school, one recently occurring on September 4, 2024. What happened on that day is exactly why schools are so concerned about their students’ safety and the amount of cameras schools have. No schools should ever have to go through the horrors of any of their students getting injured, and security cameras do their part in remedying that fear.

I liked how you explained both sides of liking the cameras and the people who don’t like the cameras.

I love reading your articles. It shows how safe it is for kids just in case in an emergency that happens they can check the camera and just like give it for evidence or for anything.

I like how you specifically talked about the security cameras around the school and how Principal Barnes would like to add more cameras around the school. I’m with that one!
