Greenway High School has had many mixed opinions coming from students and staff for its lunch. Some students think that we should keep lunch split in two periods, while other students want it to be one big period. Additionally, an opinion students argue over is if the school should include more traditional/cultural food or if they should keep the menu the same. Another topic of discussion is if the lunch is actually helping the kids in their academic performance or if it doesn’t do anything to them.
There are many perspectives on whether Greenway should keep the lunch as two periods or change it to one big period.
“1) Safety 2) Facilities 3) Efficiency,” Greenway’s lunch manager Yurina Cortes said. She expresses that she prefers two lunch periods because of students safety being at risk if the lunch was one big period, and because of the max occupancy being under the amount of students who attend Greenway.
“It would just be more stressful for all of the students trying to get lunch quickly,” Freshman Nathan Cruz said. He also prefers the lunch to stay split because the line would be far longer if everyone was at the same lunch period.
With this being said, some students also prefer the lunch to change from two periods into one big period.
“I would rather want lunch to be one big period because I want to see more of my friends.” Freshman Jovan Gallant said. This is a common view point throughout the school; being split sometimes prevents students from seeing their friends.
Another topic of debate is if Greenway should include more traditional foods. This could help integrate students, or it could be seen as stereotypical.
“It might be stereotypical to the race plus it might disrespect the students culture, and the school already has enough menu items, so they shouldn’t add more.” Freshman Kevin Esqueda said.
Although some kids think that adding more cultural food might be stereotypical to different cultures, there are others who believe that the school should add more cultural foods.
“If the school added more cultural foods to the menu, it could maybe help kids try a different kind of food and see if they like it or not.” Freshman Alejandro Gregorio said.
The final argument that students have differing perspectives on is if the school lunch actually provides the nutrition needed to help students be successful in class.
“I think eating lunch helps me get a better mindset and be more aware on the classwork in my future classes after lunch which helps me outperform some kids in my class,” Freshman Jude Avila said.
Even though some believe that eating the lunch will help them in their academic performance, other students think that the school lunch is useless and does not benefit them in any of their future classes.
“I don’t think that eating lunch or the quality of lunch matters because it really doesn’t do anything to your brain and doesn’t really help with anything,” Freshman Gavin Ammons said.
Overall, Greenway High School’s lunch has sparked many interesting conversations among students: whether it should be split or not, new menu items, and the effect that it has on students.

The thing that I liked about my story is that I included a staff member to help with a opinion.

I can relate to this article because the cafeteria lunch ain’t that great and not that bad, they’re mid, but I also agree that the school lunches need to change the menu because we cant have the same food everyday.

this a good story and makes good statements about the food selection and choice they have

Your story is really good, it shows the different point of view everybody have on lunch and it shows some like credits for the lunch ladies who work hard to give out lunches to people.

my favorite part is when he talks about safety about having the lunch split into two periods because if there was one big one there wouldn’t be enough space

It’s very interesting to see what the students of Greenway have to say about school lunch.

I love one of the quotes from this article. I would love to just have one big lunch so that way I could see all my friends granted the lines would be longer.

I like how he got view points from a staff member and also a close friend of his to ask about their opinions of the questions asked.

I like how you included different perspectives instead of the same opinion.

I think that this is a good story. I like how you explained how there were many mixed opinions coming from the staff and the students for lunch. Ever since my freshman year trying to get food from the cafeteria was always crazy, long lines, people cutting, it also takes forever just to get some food.

I like that you provided insight and logical reasons on why to keep lunch in two different hours from one of the lunch monitors.

I understand only wanting one lunch hour so everybody can eat with their friends, but I think realistically it doesn’t make sense. The lines would be too long and people at the end would have no time to really eat. On top of that, there is not enough room on campus for double the amount of students to sit.

I actually enjoyed reading this since school lunch isn’t really talked about in good ways. Great work!

I think this is really good to let people know that there are people that make this food wanting us to eat the food and that some of the things people say about the food hurts their

I believe one big lunch would be too chaotic for Greenway specifically because we have a lot of students; although, it could definitely work for a different school. I also think that there would be more fights in Greenway with a bigger lunch, especially with the lines being so long.

I liked how the article showed a lot of different peoples views.
