There are two types of people in school. There’s the type of people that hate to see themselves in the yearbook, don’t like to go to school events, and are only waiting for the day to be over so that they can go home. On the other hand, there’s the type of people that would do anything to get as involved as they can, spend the time they should be doing homework at football games instead, and join every club that they come across. No matter what kind of person you are, Greenway’s Student Council does everything they can to make sure that you have fun, feel included, and enjoy all four years of your high school experience.
Student Council commits large amounts of their time to ensure that everyone else can enjoy theirs. However, it can be challenging to balance being in Student Council with personal life.
“I would say it is pretty difficult to keep up with your work in school while managing StuCo, especially if you’re in honors/AP classes, but on the contrary, I think having such a busy schedule prepares you for life out of high school,” Senior Boston Gadsby said.
“Balancing student council, sports, and homework has been tough, but it has taught me a lot about leadership,” Junior Ramsie Hoil said. Between planning school events, working them, volunteering at them, and getting homework done, it isn’t easy for Student Council members to keep their lives as balanced as they might like. However, throughout the year, members are taught leadership and responsibility not only when it comes to homework, but also meeting new people, helping others out when they need it, and things like jobs/work or other leadership roles.
“I’ve bonded with many underclassmen and can now be a role model for them,” Junior Ramsie Hoil said. Keeping up with work tends to be so difficult because members often volunteer after-school hours to make posters, set up events, and work at events.
Many Student Council events can be extremely time-consuming and difficult to plan.
“Most definitely the most time-consuming school event to plan and execute is Homecoming,” Junior Erick Bohall said. Though these events are time-consuming and even sometimes exhausting, they are extremely crucial to the building of a spirited feeling on and off Greenway’s campus throughout students. Without these events, our school would be dull and there would be no sense of life in the atmosphere.
“Without assemblies or spirit weeks, people wouldn’t have any fun going to school everyday and our school would just be another school you could go to,” Senior Boston Gadsby said. Things like Homecoming, sports events, assemblies, pep rallies, movie nights, and spirit weeks are the things that bring Greenway’s students and staff together.
“I have had my fair share of participation in events in the past, and I can say that Student Council is so much more of a commitment than people initially realize,” Senior Boston Gadsby said.
Without our Student Council, Greenway’s students, staff, and every other person on campus would be deprived of many opportunities to meet and connect with new people, have fun at events, and show their support for their schools and its teams. For those in Student Council, they learn tremendous amounts of important life-knowledge. They learn how to meet new people and make sure that they feel welcomed and comfortable , along with leadership values like responsibility, honesty, and communication. They also learn how to take initiative in stressful or overwhelming situations. Without our Student Council, our school would have no events or spirit weeks to look forward to, and all that students would be left with is academics. When academics get stressful, most students find that it’s nice to have assemblies, fundraisers, dances, or more to look forward to. With all of the work that Greenway’s Student Council commits to to ensure that no matter who you are, you have fun, they deserve as much appreciation as they can get.

I have lots of respect for StudentCo, It takes a lot of selflessness to be in StudentCo, managing work, possibly honors classes, and attending clubs.

StuCo members really show every day how much effort they put into our school to keep it a lively place for students to be. I can’t imagine having to balance all of your free time like that.

I like how this shows that although Student Council is a commitment, it’s also a really fun thing to be a part of and make friends.

After reading tis article. I learned that without the student council, our school could not have held such a lively events. We need to thank the student council for working hard for the development of the school.

I loved this article. I feel like StuCo doesn’t get a lot of recognition for what they do for our school such as coming up with ideas for hoco, prom and our assemblys.

Your story was really organized and shows the people in stuco that have been in the longest what they thought about it through out the years and how they maintain to balance their schedule on going to football games and cheering but also have to sports and do homework! It was amazing.

I like how they made the story relatable because they brought in the balance from being in stucco and also being in regular school because people relate to that.

I think that this is a really good story. I like how you explained how there are two types of people in school because there really are. Some people just hate the fact of school spirit while theres others who really enjoy the thought of school spirit.
