Good morning Greenway, this is your GBC news! We watch it every single day yet never ask what happens behind the scenes. What is the process of GBC?
Our news tell us about future events, makes us laugh a little, and is a highlight of our third hour class. Additionally, Greenway is the only school out of 9 in the district to go live with their on air our news broadcast.
A lot of time and energy goes into the process of making GBC. From having to make different scripts each day, making their own videos, and putting it all together, there is a lot of effort that goes into GBC.
“It takes me about two hours to select and load the videos, gather announcements, locate and load images, and to write the script and tease,” Mr. Johnson, the head of GBC said.
Many students love being in GBC like Seniors Joshua Crenshaw and Sandra Schlobohm-Sylvia, who are people you continuously see on the GBC news. Sandra Schlobohm-Sylvia loves being in GBC and says that GBC teaches you a lot of skills including leadership, companionship, and creativity.
She says it also helps you get out of your comfort zone and GBC lets you put yourself out there more. Even though Sondra and Josh are seniors and will not be on GBC next year, there are also opportunities for lower classmen to join as well. An example of this is Freshman Braden Tuplano; although, he is a freshman, he already got to work a lot in GBC. As a new member of the crew who loves being in GBC, he recommends others join to show their creativity.
“Being in GBC is a lot of fun! You get to spend time being creative and having fun with your friends, and you get to spend time learning how to do important things like filming and editing. Working on the news broadcasts has been the most fun that I have had in all 4 years of high school. It’s something that I think everyone should at least try once,” Senior Joshua Crenshaw said.
“You’re able to inform fellow students and develop better speaking and reading skills. We also get to use technology that can get students ready for future jobs using these machines. GBC is overall a wonderful program and is a great addition to our school. Thank you for your time and choosing me along with other GBC students to tell you about the class. Have an amazing day,” Senior Sondra Schlobohm-Sylvia said.
As you can see, GBC students love making videos, learning, and letting their creativity out. GBC helps students be able to express themselves and speak in front of people without actually having to speak in front of people. It gives shyer kids a chance to shine and have fun.
