Music is one of the greatest aspects of life. No matter what you listen to, everyone can find joy through the sound of music. So, what kind of tunes are trending these days? Greenway students and staff were asked about some of their favorite songs at the moment, and their answers are astonishing!
Starting in the realm of K-Pop, “Maze in the Mirror” by TOMORROW X TOGETHER was listed as a favorite by Senior Larisa Hatic.
“The acoustics of the song are very calming to listen to,” she said. TOMORROW X TOGETHER are known for their experimental and diverse sounds, replicating any genre of music with utmost skill and passion.
In alignment with the calming sound of “Maze in the Mirror,” Senior Trenton McGillen stated that his favorite song at the moment was “Washing Machine Heart” by indie sensation, Mitski.
“I think it is a wonderful song because I can listen to it with any mood, but if you listen to the song, I personally think it is about a girl who wants someone to give her all of their problems in exchange for love,” he said.
To contrast the theme of relaxing melodies, Junior Brianna Limon’s favorite song is “Chop Suey!” by System of a Down. The junior states that the song holds a special place in her heart as her and her dad would listen to it during long drives. The song is extremely high-energy and would get anyone listening to it fired up!
Freshman Lejla Hatic reported that her favorite song was “505” by Arctic Monkeys. Arctic Monkeys is an English rock band that really rose to popularity around 2019. “505” is “relatable and a very good tune,” according to the freshman.
Following the popular theme of rock, Senior Maxwell Dunk said “This Love” by Pantera was his favorite at the moment. The senior has shown an appreciation for guitar instrumentals, something that Pantera specializes in. Though the song is more niche than most, it gained popularity through the resurgence of the show, “Dexter” as many used the song for edits online.
Fellow Senior Anthony Phan had a much different response, however. “Paranoia” by alternative pop band, The Marias, was his favorite.
“The Marias explore relationship paranoia which can occur in any relationship, but primarily romantic ones,” he added. The melodies of the song are very mellow and relaxing, creating a very artistic take on such a heavy topic.
“Read Your Mind” by pop sensation, Sabrina Carpenter is Junior Vanessa Dreher’s favorite song at the moment. The song has catchy lyrics and a fun beat, according to the Junior. Sabrina Carpenter’s music has been trending in the past few months, becoming very popular with teens!
Senior Sofia Johnson Perez responded with her favorite song, “Thailand”, by Malcolm Todd.
“The song is not only pretty, but it’s also meaningful,” she said. The song has a beautiful layered effect on the vocals, giving it an ethereal sound.
Fellow Senior Grayson Thorp stated that his favorite song is “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over,” by the late artist, Jeff Buckley. The song tells a powerful of love and the lengths one might go to for the person they want. Buckley’s voice is full of soul, possible of moving the listener to tears.
Finally, everyone’s favorite chemistry teacher, Mrs. Kestle shared her opinion as well. “Turbulence” by P!NK was her top choice. The lyrics are moving, inspiring the listener to continue the fight and work through their hardships.
And with that, the Greenway High School music poll has come to an end. Everyone had wonderful music recommendations, and the variety of music types really emphasize the diversity of our campus and culture.
