Have you ever wondered what kind of taste in movies the people at Greenway High School have? I asked several people what their favorite movies are.
Just can’t pick a favorite movie? Ms. Braun couldn’t either! She was between Vertigo — a 1958 mystery directed by Alfred Hitchcock — and The Goonies, a 1985 adventure film directed by Richard Donner.
“I have watched both movies multiple times as I enjoy the lightheartedness of Goonies and the mystery aspect of Vertigo.”
Maybe it’s not just the plot that draws you in towards a movie; it could be the music, the story, and the themes all combined!
“I’m a sci-fi and Star Wars nerd, so if any of the original 3 Star Wars movies are on, I’ll watch those … I also really like The Fifth Element. It’s a great sci-fi movie with good special effects and I appreciate how the story flips some gender roles in who’s the hero and who’s the one that needs rescuing,” Mr. M said. Along with sci-fi Mr. M loves dark movies, like the second Christopher Nolan Batman movie. “Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker is rewatchable again and again for sure,” he said. However, even with all those movies, Mr. M’s all time favorite movie is Grosse Pointe Blank with John Cusack. “Its humor is dark and of course the music is good.”
Senior Sela Bunsick has several favorite movies like Mr. M, with one of her biggest favorites being Your Name Engraved Herein.
“This is my favorite romance movie because of how it follows one love story from the start to the finish- through almost an entire lifetime. Especially since this is a timepiece based in the late 80’s in Taiwan. It covers themes of homophobia, family pressure, and the ups and downs of a teen love story”.
Senior Emily Garnica’s favorite movie is The Notebook.
“Every girl deserves to get a house built for her,” Senior Emily Garnica said.
Senior Camila Olmedo’s favorite movie is the very popular Disney movie, Tangled.
“It’s a really cute love story and super random and kinda like scary because Rapunzel was stolen by a creepy old lady and then a thief goes to her tower to hide and she makes him take her out and to basically just see the world and they fall in love,” Senior Camila Olmedo said.
Senior Ricky Valdez’s favorite movie is Norbit, because it’s “real funny and I used to watch it a lot when I was little with my mom”. That’s so sweet.
Senior April Marquez’s favorite movie is another classic Disney film, the Lion Kind, because it was “my mom’s favorite movie as well, and every time we see anything about Lion King, it makes her happy which makes me so happy seeing her happy. My second favorite movie is White Chicks because it brings back special memories of when my family used to live in Ariona with us and my cousin would watch it with us every single week. I can tell you all the dialogue of this movie because it’s such an amazing movie.”
It’s so cool knowing the diversity of peoples favorite movies, many love these movies for a connection with family, or also because its a funny movie.
