While many students are aware of the student council’s role within the school, their commitment and love for the school goes beyond expectation. Most students don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes, but the council is constantly working to make the school a better place. Many of our Demons have gained leadership and social experience just by participating in this program. As of recently, the Student Council members went to a state conference.
“There, we won the outstanding council of distinction award and we were able to build a stronger relationship with our classmates through StuCo bonding activities,” Junior Dakota Tatum said. Dakota is the student body historian and enjoys being so involved with school activities. Being in StuCo has opened many doors for her and she encourages others to join.
“StuCo has helped me break out of my comfort zone. If you looked at my Freshman self compared to how much I’ve grown and learned now, you’d see an enormous difference,”Junior Jenessa Aragon said. Jenessa is the Junior Class Vice President and the spirit committee head. She believes that StuCo is the gateway to school success and opportunity. She also participates in Link Crew and enjoys showing new Freshman around the campus and getting them accustomed to high school life.
Student Council members work hard to make our school exciting and engaging. Not only do they plan countless assemblies and dedicate time to make them festive, but they also organize school events such as Demon Fest and even Prom. Their dedication to Greenway is unsurpassable. Student Council advisor Ms. Gould also works incredibly hard to raise school spirit. Not only does she teach English courses, but she puts in a lot of effort to run the student council.
“One thing StuCo has taught me is not to be afraid to be myself and to be involved,” Freshman Xavier Aragon said. As a new member of student council and a new student to Greenway, Xavier was thrilled given the opportunity to create a lively high school experience for himself.
Indeed, student council members are heavily involved in school spirit. Often, they brainstorm ideas for spirit days and narrow them down to the best choices. That being said, there is a lot of detailed planning that goes into coordination. StuCo also hosts many fundraisers and travels as a class. Being in student council has given these students experience that they may use in the future and makes them devoted to school. Many of these students will take time out of their day before and after school to attend pep rallies, set up decorations for homecoming and school assemblies, attend meetings, and so much more.
“Being in StuCo has made my senior year memorable and has allowed me to meet so many new people and help attend and manage so many amazing events,” Senior Boston Gadsby said.
“Though it requires a lot of dedication, StuCo is chock-full of unforgettable experiences and I love being apart of it,” Senior Ainslie Dunbar said.
Being in student council takes a lot of dedication, but it’s also a fun and rewarding experience. From planning events to representing the school, there’s always something happening. It’s a chance to make a real impact while also enjoying memorable experiences, meeting new people, and even traveling for events. The hard work pays off with exciting opportunities and lifelong memories!
