Have you ever thought about signing up for an AP or Honors class?
Signing up for an AP/Honor class can help with your high school transcript as well as your weighted GPA. Most students who take an AP class are more likely to be looked at by colleges.

“I am in 2 AP/Honors classes currently. I chose to be in AP World because the writing style that Ms. Braun teaches will prepare me for my junior year. I also chose to be in Honors English because I had taken Advanced last year, so I went up to Honors English with Ms. Gould. I don’t mind the class; it’s not something I particularly enjoy, but it’s bearable for me. These classes could be for other people who enjoy English and history more than I do because I prefer biology rather than these subjects.

I would take Honors English again if I could because I surprisingly understood a lot more than I thought and the teacher got involved and made it so that I could understand when I asked her one-on-one. These classes could affect your transcript by earning extra credits toward your GPA. AP classes can give you 2 extra credits, so an A is worth 4 credits, but if you have an A in an AP class, it’s worth 6 credits. Same with Honors classes but they’re only worth 1 extra credit,” Sophomore Pierce Szmanda said.
Even though the work can be more challenging, some students and teachers enjoy that. Honors classes are more beneficial towards academic skills, and honors teachers enjoy teaching more rigorous content.

“I do like teaching Honors Algebra 2. And yes, it is more challenging. That’s one thing I like about it. If the content is more challenging, the teaching and explaining and breaking the lesson down into smaller pieces becomes more challenging too, and I enjoy that,” Honors Algebra II teacher Mr. M said.

Another example is from AP World History teacher, Ms. Braun,
“I enjoy teaching AP World History. There are more topics that I can cover, and I like to teach challenging content. The work is much more rigorous than the curriculum taught in regular World History. There is a lot more essay writing, and the multiple choice questions are more difficult. But, I think it is a nice challenge for students to grow as learners and a great opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school,” she said.
It is clear that being in an AP or Honors class is much more difficult than a regular class. Being in an AP or Honors class has many benefits, some of which include benefiting one’s transprict and learning more challenging coursework.
