The end of the school year is approaching fast, and for some that may just mean another summer, but for our seniors, it means new beginnings are coming.
All of our seniors are taking different paths after high school, but it takes a lot of work to get there, and many of us are struggling to get through the last stretches of the year.
Since graduation is right around the corner it is hard to stay focused on school work, which is where the term Senioritis plays in. Senioritis is a term that came about in 1907 to show the lack of motivation that Seniors have towards the end of the year.
“I’m really just waiting for this last nine weeks to be over; Senioritis is no joke,” Senior Mia Stewart said.
This feeling seems to be common among a lot of the senior class.
“Honestly Senioritis has ruined a lot of my work. Graduation day is going to be such a relief,” Senior Peter Mazzei said.
Not only is graduation a big deal for the senior class, it is also a big deal for our teachers on campus. Many of our teachers have been teaching our class since freshman year and have watched these students grow and change over the last 4 years.
“While I always see growth between sophomore and senior year, I do believe that the growth has been a little slower to take place in recent years. I do have concerns that many of these seniors will struggle as they navigate the ‘real world.’ I say this because since the development of AI; many see this as a way to ‘cheat the system,’ and I see this as a detriment to developing one’s character,” Ms. Hamby said.
Ms. Hamby and many other teachers on our campus believe that the reason that Senioritis is hitting so hard this year is that many of our students have been taking shortcuts ever since the creation of AI and the times of Covid, and there is a possibility that those lazy habits won’t be so easy to drop. That is why its so important in these last few months to get into better habits. Seniors have a lot going in the last couple weeks of school that often gets pushed to the last minute. Many students find it helpful to rely on peers to keep each other on the right track.
“When I was a Freshman I had to see my two favorite seniors go, and they helped me get through a lot and this year. I’m gonna miss the whole Senior class, on huzz,” Sophomore Morgan Wisniewski said.
The most important thing through all of these crazy times is just to keep pushing. Everybody has different goals for after high school so not everyone will have the same paths. Just remember to lock in and use your resources to the best of your abilities. Even though some tasks seem impossible, you’re almost there seniors! Your future is upcoming and bright!
