Greenway’s school bookstore is more than just a place to pick up textbooks – it’s a trusted resource that students and staff utilize to display their involvement with the school or acquire help from the student workers and staff. Whether it’s providing essential course materials, school supplies, or spirit wear to showcase school pride, the bookstore is always there to ensure everyone has what they need to succeed.
“Working at the bookstore has taught me many valuable things, including the responsibility of a workplace. My favorite thing about working here is working registration,” Junior Jenessa Aragon said.
Student workers find themselves before school, at lunch, and after school selling Greenway merchandise, prom tickets, play tickets, assisting students with trip payments and helping them pay off debt. Those are only a handful of the things these student workers do for the school.
“I really enjoy the atmosphere in the bookstore and I’ve made a lot of amazing friends here; I really appreciate the technical skills that working here has taught me,” Junior Abby Otten said.
Ms. Jarrell, the bookstore operator, puts a lot of effort and hard work into keeping the bookstore tidy and running smoothly. Many of the students that work in the bookstore began training with her as Freshmen and continue to work there until Senior Year. Students know that they are able to rely on the bookstore when their Chromebook isn’t working right or they have questions about fees.
Working in a business environment has taught these students valuable lessons and prepares them for future job opportunities. Seniors in particular find the bookstore extremely helpful and use its functions to guide them to success. Oftentimes, these Seniors will realize they are in debt or need to pay for prom and graduation tickets. Other times, they lose hold of their ID and require one to enter school-held events. Luckily, the bookstore is able to solve all of these problems. New IDs can be printed and tickets can easily be purchased from the workers.
Additionally, the bookstore is a friendly and great environment where these working students have made many friends.
“I love being involved with the school and working for the bookstore has proved to be a great experience. I see so many familiar faces and make friends often,” Junior Dakota Tatum said.
Great accomplishments and bonds have been made through excellent work. While the student workers work hard throughout the year, they also partake in activities that make being in the bookstore fun. To celebrate and show off their Demon pride, they often will decorate the bookstore accordingly for the Holidays. Greenway’s bookstore is festive and productive!
“Shadowing the workers here has already taught me so much financially and I am excited to be able to work alongside them in the future,” Freshman Xavier Aragon said.
With all that being said, it’s clear that the students in the bookstore enjoy learning about business etiquette and value their time being a part of something so special that serves great contribution to the school. Greenway is grateful to have such a hardworking manager such as Ms. Jarrell and a thriving, helpful bookstore community.
