Since Greenway High School’s school year is coming to an end in a month, students who didn’t do so well in the first semester have 2 choices to make. The first choice, less preferable, choice is to fail the first and second semester and retake a whole school year during their 3 month summer vacation. The second option they seem to have is to really start paying attention, and get all their missing assignments done and future assignments finished as well. This is known as making an “academic comeback.”
Making an academic comeback is a popular but challenging task for students who are currently not doing so well in school because of stress, and many other reasons. However, some students here at Greenway believe they’re up for the job.
“I can say that I’m confident enough to make a comeback in the school year because I am only failing 3 classes right now, so I don’t have to do a lot of work, but I still need to make sure that I don’t fail any other classes while getting the 3 grades up,” Freshman Nathan Cruz said. More students who think they can make a comeback usually say this, since they were failing half their classes and not all of them.
“I think that I am able to make a comeback for my grades because even though I may be failing all my classes, all I have to do is just really wait until the weekend and start from there, and it can be done in 2 or 3 days because of how accessible and easy tools are like AI and stuff.” Freshman Jovan Gallant said. More kids who also believed they could accomplish the challenge said this, since it now seems easier to be able to complete it since tools like AI and others can help someone finish it.
Although sometimes this challenge can be accomplished, some kids don’t seem to always be truthful about this. This caused some teachers to either believe in the academic comeback, while others might not believe in it.
“I’m not really a big believer of the academic comeback since you’re probably gonna get barely any credit since you turn in the assignments late, and most teachers give half credit or no credit to late assignments, so it’s best to just stay on top of your classes, and it’s not worth it.” Teacher Steven Andersen said.
While others might not believe in it, others do.
“Since I allow students to turn in any assignment late while still getting full credit and retests, I would say I’m a believer” Teacher Adam Mrozinski said.
All in all, this shows that Greenway students have a pretty strong self-image for participating in an academic comeback. This also shows that anything can be possible if you trust the process. However, some can still also not be able to be successful in this. Although a kid can be successful or unsuccessful when doing this can mix up teachers’ opinions on the topic.
