Seniors have gone through it all in Greenway High School but now it’s soon to come to an end when they graduate. A question that pops in my head for them is if they could go back in time what would they have told their freshman self. I have asked these five wonderful seniors what they might have told their freshman self.
Senior Emery Thomas-Hickman is a creative choir president, she has been in choir for all her four years of High School. She’s also in NHS, Link Crew, and she’s an ambassador to help new students around. But Emery would still tell her freshman self, ” There’ll be days when you feel invisible, when it feels easier to quit than to keep pushing. Don’t quit. Persistence will be your superpower. Nobody will hand you confidence; you’ll have to build it, one hard moment at a time.”
Senior Taylor Borup would tell her freshman self, “Enjoy every good and bad moment, you can be yourself. Don’t do something because you think you’ll be embarrassed, nobody will remember it and if they do it will make a great story to laugh at”. Taylor has accomplished being the starting soccer goalkeeper by her senior year and that’s after not having a record here for playing soccer. She was also recognized in the central Arizona news as someone to watch out for in the high school softball world.
Senior Boston Gadsby has accomplished so much for this school. He has been involved in nearly every club our campus has to offer, he’s become Senior class President, he’s gotten an AAA award, been a Varsity Tennis player for 3 years, and so much more. He says “Embrace every opportunity that comes your way. I didn’t truly begin to immerse myself in all that Greenway has to offer until the second half of my junior year, and looking back, I wish I had seized those opportunities from the start. Don’t wait—start now and make the most of every moment. Whether it’s joining a sport, a club, or any activity that sparks your interest—don’t hesitate, just do it.”
Senior Brooke Surbers is a very hard working student at Greenway High School. For example she is the DECA Treasurer and the Speech and Debate President. She has won numerous awards for both DECA and Speech and Debate. She has accomplished many feats and still carries a perfect GPA and has community service hours. But Brooke would still tell her freshman self “Don’t change yourself because others want you to, you will find out who you are in these next 4 years and you will become an amazing person”.
Lastly but not least is a Senior named Izel Martinez-Zaragoza who simply is such a good person in general. What he has accomplished in high school is that he has just not had any beef with anyone since the first day of freshman year. Izel would simply like to tell his freshman self just to “lock in in Senior Year”.
Every single one of these quotes are inspirational and I think every single one of us could take a little bit from them. Because many of us will and have already accomplished so much but could still use a little advice.
