Often, when people think of dream jobs, they think of something unattainable. Children often dream of becoming pop stars, actors, or astronauts. Some people may see these plans to the end, but it is also very common to change aspirations the older you get.
Many students on our campus have always had dream jobs, and some will put in the work to achieve them, while others simply leave them as a childhood memory.
“When I was little, I was really good at Legos, so I wanted to be an engineer,” Sophomore Morgan Wisniewski said. Even though that is not what she wants to do anymore, it is something that she looks back on fondly.
Many people have a passion behind their dreams, while others simply find the enjoyable.
“I wanted to be a welder when I was little because I wanted to be just like my dad. I still think it would be cool to do that someday,” Freshman Charlyse Menendez said.
There are also many people who, once they have the idea, they will do anything to achieve that goal.
“Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be a doctor, or something in the medical field. As I’ve gotten older, I hold that passion with me, and I started to look into tons of schooling programs to get my degree. I am looking forward to being an EMT,” Senior Leah Williams said.
It is also pretty common for people to have many different paths at different times in their lives. Something that they were once passionate about might not become the end goal, and that is okay.
“When I was young, I wanted to be a vet, or something with animals. I still have a love for animals, but I realized I have too much of a fear of needles, so now I’m going to school for something in the art field,” Senior Nova Witt said.
Even some of our beloved teachers on campus were not always educators. Did you know that before teaching high school, Mr. Hewlett taught elementary school? And before Mrs. Henderson was a teacher, she was a debt collector?
“It was something I chose to do when I was younger, but the job was really negative. I switched to teaching to hopefully have a more uplifting environment on the daily basis, and I am glad I did it,” Ms. Henderson said.
It is important to always strive for your dreams while still keeping a realistic mindset.
“When I was little, I wanted to be a singer. Realistically, I know that will probably never happen, but it is fun to imagine what that could be like from time to time,” Freshman Mikel Cortez says.
It is always fun to look back on memories. Old passions can tell a lot about a person, even if it was just a silly childhood dream. Childhood dreams can help a lot with personal development and can inspire our futures.
