Whether a school is large or small, in the city or in the countryside, every school has its own culture and climate. School culture has no clear definition, but it is often referred to as “norms, values, beliefs, traditions, and rituals built up over time.” How people talk to each other, the level of honesty, vocabulary, dress, cleanliness, and respect are just a few aspects of school culture.
While school culture is like the personality of the school, School climate means the school’s attitude, which includes major spheres of school life such as safety, relationships, teaching and learning, and the environment, as well as larger organizational patterns. Positive school cultures and climate led to high-quality learning environments, shared goals for both students and teachers, and generated a sense of teamwork.
It is important to spread school culture visibly; updating the school’s physical design and identifying symbolic objects are effective ways. Greenway has its symbol of a green and gold ‘G’, which can be found on walls, the gym floor, and uniforms. These symbols help students feel more connected and proud of our school. Poster and decorated hallways can also express what the school stands for. Even small things, like themed dress-up day, can create a strong sense of community. When students see their school values being displayed visually, it encourages them to take part and feel a deeper connection.
“I truly believe that school events are crucial to our spirit here at Greenway. Getting excited about sports, clubs, and events makes school fun. I believe at Greenway, we have more spirit than most schools because our students get involved, and that really shows. Life is short, and it must be celebrated.” Mr. Johnson said.
Whether it’s cheering at the game, joining a club, or simply saying hi in the hallway, every action shapes our school’s spirit. At Greenway, these shared experiences help create a positive climate where everyone feels welcome. By staying involved and supporting one another, we all play a part in making Greenway a better place to learn and grow.

I like the school’s traditions. They always go all out, and they always become a highlight of my day. Good job.
