Winning many games, the girls’ varsity softball team has had a great season. Although winning is something that brings joy, they have made many memories and friends. Creating a strong bond on the field is important, and that is exactly what these girls have done this season. For the seniors, this has been a great and memorable season, and a great way to end. For others, it’s a great way to start and makes them look forward to their next season.
Senior Taylor Borup says, “This team had something special and played as one. I believe the bond we made on the field was something you can’t make up.” For her, winning with her team and having each other’s support was the best part. Her favorite memory from this season was when they stood up for their coach as a team by winning rather than trash-talking like the other team, she says, “they would talk smack and instead of saying something we would just rack up the scoreboard.” Another one is her senior night, she says, “when I hit a home run on my senior night in my first at bat of the game, as I had so many people there to support me, and it was just such a cool feeling rounding third.” Taylor believes that playing Dear Valley early in their season gained them their strength, “no one expected us to pull that win out, let alone run rule them.” Taylor is glad to have the team she has in her senior year.
Junior Madelyn Banister says, “I am looking forward to next season because I get to hopefully play on the same team as my best friend, Emma Sauerbrei, during my senior year.” Madelyn is looking forward to the bond she gets to make with her teammates. “My favorite memory from this season was our away game at Prescott because we got to leave school early, get lunch at Firehouse Subs, get another win, and then get In & Out on the way home.” Cherishing the memories made with her team makes her softball seasons much more enjoyable. “Our greatest strength from our team this year would definitely be our energy that we brought to games, home or away. We focused on keeping our energy up, whether or not the scoreboard was in our favor, someone struck out, or dropped a ball. We developed this high energy after a few games that were very high intensity.” “Despite that, I still think we had an amazing season and I am going to miss playing with our 3 seniors who are leaving this year.” The team’s bond gave them the energy and motivation to win.
Playing softball gave these girls memories they won’t forget and friends they love. Being a part of a team that works so well together and has great friendships has left the seniors leaving on a great note, and other players the ability to look forward to playing in their next seasons. Stand tall and enjoy playing softball.
