High school students at Greenway are taking the first steps towards careers in education by taking a class called Ed Professions. This class is a mix of seniors, juniors and sophomores. Ms. Fowler teaches this class that focuses learning how to teach. There are both first and second year students in the program. Senior Alonzo Martinez-Zaragoza is President of Ed Professions.
“I had decided to join this class in my junior year because I wanted to be a teacher; this class definitely helps you with the skills required for that career path. It also helps in many other careers, as you learn public speaking techniques, communication, and working with children as you intern at other schools,” said Alonzo Martinez-Zaragosa.
Alonzo also stated that “Being president of this class entails leading discussions among my officers, and working alongside them to lead groups for certain tasks. Other than the typical officer activities; in this class, I lead a Community Service group where we create activities for our once a month Best Buddies meeting, create and monitor sign-ups for elementary school activities, keep track of total community service hours, plan class events like book drives/adopt a family, and advertise for events when needed.”
