Trends change a lot throughout the years, but recently the 2000s scene has been very popular among the recent generation. Students at Greenway have been following these trends from the 2000s as well. In this article, you will learn more about some of the popular brands that students at school wear to recreate that era.
1. Miss Me
First on the list is the brand Miss Me, founded in 2001. In the early 2000s, it was very popular to wear extremely low-waisted bootcut jeans. Miss Me does create tops, but is known for their blinged-out pockets on their shorts and pants. They fit many styles as well, varying from country to alt scene, making them very popular at school. They are not as low-rise as they once were, but have become popular again recently. They are expensive, with most pairs listed around 120$. Although pricey, many girls at Greenway have a pair in their closet.

Sophomore Brisia Mendoza says, “I like how they make your body shape more curved and how flexible they can be. Each jeans can have with different design in the back pockets, which makes it unique from other brands that have the same patterns. They go with anything and are very easy to style. I have about 5 pairs and I’m still waiting to get more.” She’s been spotted around Greenway in them and always has such cute outfits.
2. Affliction

Affliction was a brand launched in 2005 and became popular around the late 2000s. Affliction was common among the hip-hop scene in the late 2000s and recently resurfaced and became popular again. Interestingly enough, instead of the hip-hop style it once represented, in recent years it is worn more in the edgier alternative scene. They are most popular for their t-shirts that often include features like skulls, crosses, and wings. Prices for tops typically range from 38$-168$.
3. True Religion

If you’re a fan of the Black Eyed Peas, then you’ll know this brand. True Religion was created in 2002 and became a staple item. They were common among celebrities and even got a mention in Fergie’s famous line ‘7 jeans, True Religion, I say no but they keep giving’ in the song “My Humps”. True Religion has definitely returned in current trends with their iconic horseshoe embroidered pockets and Buddha mascot.
Sophomore Nathan, who often wears True Religion jeans at Greenway, comments, “I love True Religion because their jeans have such a great fit and feel, making me look good and feel comfortable all day. Also, the unique stitching and signature horseshoe design on their back pockets give the brand a distinctive look compared to other jeans brands. And making it a casual style but still look good and luxurious, making it easy to dress comfortably and feeling fashionable.” He could not find a picture of himself in True Religion, so he submitted this AI picture of himself in a True Religion jean jacket.
4. Ed Hardy

Unless you live under a rock, you have definitely seen the brand Ed Hardy. The brand was founded in 2004, and became so popular at a point that they started making $700 million a year. Many celebrities and influencers have been seen wearing this brand in the 2000s and currently: Some include Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Madonna, Mariah Carey, and recently, Tara Yummy. They are unique due to their tattoo-like designs, often including tigers, hearts, and swords. Unlike other brands on this list, there is no particular item that makes them popular. Students will wear anything with the logo, like beanies, trucker hats, two-piece sets, sweaters, sweatpants, shirts, and more. Ed Hardy has made one of the biggest comebacks in fashion today because of their popularity in the 2000s.
Sophomore Sadie Pettorsson answered in my interview, “I like Ed Hardy because it blends bold, artistic expression with streetwear – it feels like wearing a statement. The tattoo-inspired graphics and vintage edge really stand out. My favorite Ed Hardy pieces are a couple of graphic tees and baggy jeans.” She wears a pink Ed Hardy baby tee at Greenway in the picture.
4. DC

This brand was founded in 1994 and saw a rapid growth in sales in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Worn by celebrities like Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne, this brand was very popular among the skater scene. Their popular shoes have become in demand again, with prices ranging anywhere from $70 to $550.

Sophomore Samuel Wilder says, “I like how DC is noticeable to other people when you wear it. Most people know what you’re wearing when you wear it. DC shirts and pants are pretty comfortable as well. When you wear it, you feel cool and look cool as well.” Sam has a very alternative style at Greenway and likes to dye his hair many different colors. In the photo, you can see Sam in a green DC shirt.
5. Victoria’s Secret/ Pink

Victoria’s Secret, founded in 1977, has always been a popular brand. It gained a lot of attention during the 2000s for its models: Some popular ones include Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, and Heidi Klum. They were famous for their fashion shows, where they wore wings and were called “angels”. The models would compete for the bigger wings, and if Heidi Klum did not get the biggest ones, she refused to walk the runway. Trends change a lot throughout the years, but recently, the 2000s scene has been very popular among Greenway students. Victoria’s Secret is becoming even more popular due to the 2000s aesthetic.

Sophomore Atiana Rivers has worn a lot of 2000s-inspired fits like Ed Hardy and Victoria’s Secret as well. She made a statement about Victoria’s Secret, saying, “I love how Victoria’s Secret has such comfortable undergarments and clothing. The undergarments are very comfortable and stylish, and they always have new designs and deals, so I can buy more. I love their perfumes because they smell amazing and always complement my outfits. I’m constantly at the store searching for more clothing, accessories, and scents. I appreciate the time and effort put into each Victoria’s Secret design, it gives a lot more unique choices to people who don’t like wearing the same thing constantly.” You can see one of Ati’s favorite scents from Victoria’s Secret, Sultry Berry Bourbon.
7. Juicy Couture

Another brand that has always been popular is Juicy Couture. It was released in 1995 and has been popular since. It is most famous for its velour tracksuits with rhinestones that spell out juicy. Now they have so much more than just clothes. You can buy almost anything from the brand, including products ranging from makeup to bed sheets.
Junior Sage Garcia commented, “I love Juicy Couture because of the quality and texture of the velvet”, referring to Juicy’s popular velour tracksuits.
8. JNCO

JNCO is a brand that creates wide-leg jeans. It was founded by two brothers in 1985, who wanted to represent more individuality in fashion. They were inspired by streetwear and wanted to recreate the widest-legged jeans possible. Although they were more popular in the 90s, they have still made the list. This is because they have made a comeback to fashion among teens and often get misconstrued for 2000s wear. They actually went out of style around the 2000s because the trend became having low-rise boot-cut jeans, and the popular wide-leg jeans of the 90s became old.
9. Von Dutch

Von Dutch was one of the most popular brands in the 2000s era. In 2003, they reached peak sales, making 33 million dollars in one year. You could see mainstream celebrities like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Justin Timberlake wearing Von Dutch’s popular trucker hats. The Von Dutch craze died after the 2000s but recently resurfaced and is now popular among teenagers again.
10. Baby Phat

You may not have seen this brand unless you are keeping up with the Y2K trend, but Baby Phat had one of the biggest impacts in the 2000s. Baby Phat introduced trends like denim dresses and chained belts. Artists like Mary J. Blige and Aaliyah wore the iconic cat-print clothes, and it was a staple in the hip-hop community for many women. They are not as popular today, but are coming back to those who are fans of the 2000s aesthetic.
