Some seniors are considering whether or not to add an elective. This can be a great opportunity for students to explore new interests, learn new skills, or dive deeper into a subject they enjoy. It adds variety to the school day and can make learning more engaging and voluntary. However, adding an extra elective also means extending the school day by an hour, which may be a deal breaker to certain students. While the extra class offers benefits, it also comes with the challenge of balancing a longer school day. In order to find out what students think, I asked some Seniors these questions.

Do you think the regular schedule we have now, including the electives, are good as they are, or would you like to make changes if you could?
I think the regular schedule we have now with the electives is good, but I think for seniors, they should get a shorter day and take only their class or electives they really want to take. Like, take the core classes needed and then take 1 or even 2 instead of 3 electives because some seniors are in electives they don’t particularly want to be in, but need them for a full schedule.

Do you think this would make your last year of high school worth the experience?
Yes definitely because it would help teach kids, if they don’t already know basic home survival stuff from how to make yourself a meal to how to handle finances.

I would make it so seniors could have one less elective and all seniors could get here an hour after the other grades. That way we all leave at the same time but seniors get a little extra sleep.

If not, would there be an elective that you would like to add at Greenway to make you want to stay longer?
An elective I would like to add is something that includes only seniors and we all just do fun activities.

Would this be an extra way for you to meet new people and create last year memories together?
I feel like if someone who lived really close to the school would like to stay longer. I also think that it would let them meet new people and make new memories, but I would not.
