GBC’s Full Throttle Breaks the Model

This year the GBC is trying something new with the morning announcements. Once a week they create a Full Throttle Thursday broadcast. This new segment involves different themes every week. Some of the themes were masked singers, sock puppets, game show, and even Student Council was featured once.

Senior Leilani Bickel stated, ” My favorite full throttle theme so far has been either the Lego news or the singing news; it was very different from our normal format and goofy. Usually to prepare for full throttles, we come in early to set up and practice what we’re going to say, and how the news will be run. My favorite part about getting to film/air these is being able to really show all of our creativity.”

Senior Stuart Sarjeant stated, ”  My favorite Full Throttle Thursday was our first one, the game show. For the Lego broadcast we got to school by 6:30 to record the voiceovers and were editing that video till the last minute of the 2nd hour. My favorite part of getting to create and perform these skits is that it’s going to be a memory that sticks with me forever.”

Senior Zoie Brant stated, “I really enjoy Full Throttle Thursdays. I feel like it adds a little bit of umph to our news show. I think that GBC should continue to do it next year because it helps build school spirit and makes the day feel more exciting. If I had to pick a theme, I’d choose something along the lines of retro rewinds or back in the day where everyone dresses up in styles from different decades, like the 70s, 80s, or 90s. It would be fun and the show would make for great yearbook photos!”

Senior Addyson Osborne stated, “I would say I enjoy Full Throttle Thursdays. It is a good comedic way to relax and decompress at the end of the week. I think they should continue to do this next year. If I had to pick a topic I would pick face swap where you would swap the reporters faces and mess with the audience.”

Mr. Yerger stated, “Full-throttle Thursday is a great idea—it presupposes the idea of turning it up a bit or punching the gas for some extra power. I like this idea because it’s an incentive to push yourself a bit.  Here at Greenway, I love seeing how students and teachers inspire each other by striving for their own version of next-level excellence!  If I had to pick a theme for next year, I’d honor any work that demonstrates that idea of really going for it.”

Mr. Yerger also stated, “As an added idea, I’d like to see a few “Full-Throttle Freshmen” features.  If you’re really going to make the best of life and your time at Greenway, going for it is a way of life.  It is something that we Greenway Demons strive for every day.  Having GBC recognize some freshmen who understand and live that message would be awesome!   Every year, I see freshmen who get it, and as a result, they inspire others.  It’s pretty amazing!”
